Men’s Hair Loss Causes

Hair follicles with a genetic sensitivity to Dihydrotestosterone, (DHT) are inherited by men with male pattern baldness. The lifespan of each hair follicle is shortened by DHT as they begin to miniaturize and ultimately stop producing socially acceptable hair.

The general characteristics of male pattern baldness (MPB), is the thinning crown and receding hairline. The temples and mid-anterior scalp are initially affected by DHT with an obvious eventual progression into baldness throughout the entire top of the scalp.

This leaves a rim or “horseshoe” appearance, and in more advanced stages even this can be affected by DHT. This is why it’s important to understand the science behind this process, because prevention can be one of the best treatments in some cases.

Type II 5-alpha-reductace is an enzyme found in the hair follicle’s oil glands. This enzyme converts testosterone into the by-product Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). When DHT is suppressed scientist have discovered that hair follicles continue to thrive.

Despite the need for further understanding of male pattern baldness, it has been established that sensitive hair follicles must be exposed to the DHT hormone, for prolonged periods before, the miniaturization process takes place.

This is the reasoning why steroid users end up balding faster. While the drugs don’t necessarily cause the hair loss, they certainly speed up the process.

MPB or androgenic alopecia causes hair loss in large numbers of men with many possible reasons ranging from serious diseases, medication reactions and in some cases very stressful events.

Most hair loss, however, is hereditary and fortunately, today this process, if caught early enough, can be slowed or even stopped with proper intervention.

If your hair loss has gotten close to the point of no return, hair transplant or restoration surgery is a great option. It’s affordable and individualized for each individual.

Most clinics offer an informational DVD that helps you get the low down on exactly how they’ll treat your condition. From there it’s easy to get more information and go in for a personal evaluation when you have a chance.
